Patent papers for a spiral vent water wheel, 1830-1833.

The collection contains a letter, 2 August 1830, from John D. Craig, superintendent, U.S. Dept. of State Patent Office concerning Clark Willson's application for a patent on the spiral vent water wheel, written on a printed circular explaining how to apply for a patent; a four-page printed brochure, "Directions for building the spiral vent water wheel;" a printed broadside advertising Willson's water wheel, 1 April 1833; and a letter from Thomas Whitcomb, Grafton, N.H., 31 December 1833, requesting the name of the man who is building a sawmill in Hartford, Conn., with Willson's 2 January 1834 reply on the reverse.
